China’s Great Wall
No trip to China would be complete without a visit to the spellbinding Great Wall. It is the longest man-made structure, stretching over 5,000 miles. It winds across mountains, plateaus, grasslands and deserts.
The Great Wall is a series of earthen and stone fortifications built between the 5th century BC and the 16th century to protect the empire of China. The first and most famous part of the wall was ordered to be constructed by the first Emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang, around 220 BC.
The Great Wall of China is one of the greatest wonders of the world and became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
Parts of the wall can be visited as a day trip from Beijing.
